why do I paint?
Hi, my name is Leon McDonald and I am the owner and lead photographer at Janel Lee Photography. I’ve been shooting glamour and contemporary portraits for about 9 years now and I’ve always been drawn to the hand painted backdrops sold and used by some of the world’s best photographers. There are a lot of painters out there that offer beautiful backdrops but oftentimes the cost is prohibitive, especially if you’re just starting out. You could paint your own, but it can be messy, time consuming, and it could lead to frustration and disappointment if you don’t get the color combination or texture right.
I have studied backdrop painting for about 7 years now. I wanted to be able to paint backdrops for beginner and intermediate photographers that would love to have a beautiful hand painted backdrop, but lack the circumstances, or desire to paint their own. Also some just don’t have the budget to buy an expensive backdrop.
I use simple materials like painters drop cloth and house paint to make beautiful backdrops with rich color and texture. The low cost per backdrop reflects the basic materials used, however all care is taken to eliminate wrinkles and stiffness common when using painters drop cloth and interior house paint. The end result is an affordable, beautiful backdrop that will last you for years but that won’t break the bank! And we offer FREE SHIPPING anywhere in the US!
